Thunderbolt™ solution for Prism Sound Orpheus and ADA-8XR interfaces

Thunderbolt™ solution for Prism Sound Orpheus and ADA-8XR interfaces Cambridge, UK: The recent addition of the new Thunderbolt I/O connection to Apple Mac computers means data can be transferred faster than ever - 10Gbps of bidirectional throughput plus a separate display bus. Lightning fast speed and huge bandwidth has meant Thunderbolt can accommodate nearly any existing connection to a variety of external devices with the necessary adapter, including Prism Sound FireWire audio interfaces Orpheus and ADA-8XR. After extensive testing on the latest Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 operating system the Sonnet Thunderbolt Adapter passed with flying colours and will allow Prism Sound FireWire interface users to maintain the same software control and functionality they are currently benefiting from through the FireWire 800 and 400 connection.

Vicoustic ViTune acoustic measurement tool

More than simply a measurement tool, ViTune is designed to help both audio professionals and hi-fi enthusiasts tune their rooms without requiring specialist training. (Regies, Recording Rooms, Hi Fi, home theaters, home cinemas, etc) Based on a simple “traffic light” indication system, room measurement is carried out in four easy steps via the software’s intuitive interface. As well as measuring the room, ViTune also indicates how much acoustic treatment should be used to improve the overall room acoustic. Two choices of product are offered for fixing reverberation time problems and controlling first reflections. It also shows the exact frequency to which Vari Bass should be tuned! ViTune is programmed to classify early reflections and reverberation time based on the IEC Acoustic Norm. The red light means bad behavior, yellow means some reflection failure, and green means the room is up to IEC standard. For customers with more experience of acoustic analysis, the software also

Edelweiss - Rosegarden 11.11 Released - DAW for Linux OS

The Rosegarden team is proud to announce the release of version 11.11 of Rosegarden, an audio and MIDI sequencer and musical notation editor for Linux. A long time in the making, this release combines a number of bug fixes with two major sub-projects that happened to come together right at the same time, and several completely new features as well. It is probably our most substantial offering since the landmark 10.02. Ian Gardner and Yves Guillemot have worked together for nearly a year to invent, implement, and refine the new concept of linked segments, which allow you to maintain a master performance in one segment while copying it to other places, or even other tracks. When manipulating segments in the main window, Ctrl+Alt+drag creates a linked segment from an existing one, and there is a new “Turn Links into Copies” entry on the Segment menu. Repeated segments may be displayed in the notation editor (in gray), and depending on the state of the configuration option, the origi

CreateDigitalMusic: A New Plug-in Format, Really? Avid Answers Our Questions About AAX and Pro Tools

Alongside its Pro Tools 10 and HDX unveiling, Avid turned some heads by recently announcing it was replacing its RTAS and TDM formats to a new format called AAX, “Avid Audio eXtension.” Now, your first reaction may not be unbridled enthusiasm, exactly: it seems the last thing users are likely saying is, “yes, please, I’d like a new plug-in format to worry about.” But I wanted to give the engineers at Avid a chance to tell us what they were thinking and why they made the move. Avid’s product announcements have unfortunately coincided, presumably because of the financial calendar, with unpleasant restructuring and downsizing news, a topic NYC-based audio engineering site SonicScoop takes up. However, I prefer to focus here on the engineering side of what’s happening; we can look at Avid’s business and the changing business landscape another day. (For what it’s worth, I’m not as bleak as SonicScoop about the industry at large – least of all because I think the larger audio market remains

Harmony Central: Avoid Common Recording Mistakes

Avoid Common Recording Mistakes VERSION 2 Created on: May 10, 2011 5:04 PM by Phil O'Keefe - Last Modified: Nov 1, 2011 4:19 PM by Phil O'Keefe Identify and remove obstacles that get in the way of great recordings By Phil O'Keefe Why is it so hard to get tracks that kill? Mixes that scream with emotional impact--music that holds up to the work of the masters of our craft? Experienced pro or newbie neophyte, we all share a desire to improve the sound, relevance, and "vibe" of our recordings. But sometimes the way to do this isn't just by doing the right thing, but avoiding doing the wrong thing--and that in turn will indeed make things easier. BAD GEAR Everyone's favorite whipping boy, bad gear is often the first place many of us look to and point the finger at when something about our recordings doesn't knock us out. And let's face it: First-class gear sounds great, and that can't help but make things sound better--but only if y

M-Audio: Understanding Studio Monitors: Working with Bass Frequencies and Diffusion

Understanding Studio Monitors: Working with Bass Frequencies and Diffusion Learn how to create and place bass traps, diffusers, and more Dealing with Bass Frequencies Uneven bass response can be a major problem for many project studio owners. Bass frequencies tend to build up in corners and boundary points, so the central listening position often suffers from a lack of bass clarity. Bass frequencies behave differently than mids and highs, so treating the room for low‑end response requires unique methods. Materials that absorb high frequencies often provide little resistance to the low‑frequency end of the spectrum (and vice versa). In order to properly handle low frequencies, most rooms need to be controlled with bass traps. Bass traps employ special absorptive materials that reduce the resonance of low frequencies. You can absorb a large portion of undesired bass frequencies by placing these devices in corners, room boundaries or free‑standing spots. Tip: You can make an inexp

Is your Mac Pro really compatible with the new HDX hardware?

There seems to be some confusion regarding what kind of Mac Pro you actually need to run the new HDX hardware. If you thought you were ready for blast off just because you own an Intel-based Mac tower you’ve got another thing coming. This confusion can only be blamed on Avid. They have changed their website and haven’t been clear about the requirements. Sure, the HDX is still a while away from being shipped, but if you’re planning to make a $10K investment, wouldn’t you want to know if you had to buy a brand new Mac on top of that? So here’s what the Avid website says today: * Apple Mac Pro (Nehalem/Westmere models only) * Mac OS X Lion (32- or 64-bit) * 2 GB of RAM (4 GB or more recommended) * Minimum 15 GB free hard disk space for Pro Tools installation * USB port for iLok authorization (plus, Internet connection for software download) That means Woodcrest and Harpertown are shit out of luck. Max Gutnik, Avid’s internet warrior, chimed in on the Harpertown: There is an
